For the first time in the world: power unit for a long-distance electric truck

Nikola Motor Company and Bosch have developed a power unit for commercial vehicles of the future

• The partnership of the companies will allow to produce fuel cells and axial electric drive eAxle for the hydrogen-electric truck Nicola
• Bosch offers automotive equipment and software solutions for the implementation of the delivered market entry plan - the launch of mass production by 2021
• The incubator of electrification: the development and competencies of Bosch will help the startup to move from the concept stage to the implementation stage

Salt Lake City - The electrification of vehicles is getting bigger than you could imagine.  By 2021 Nikola Motor Company will bring to the market hydrogen-electric heavy trucks One and Two.  Their power plants will develop more than 1,000 horsepower power and 2,000 Nm of torque.  This is about twice as much as now any truck tractor on the road. At the same time, as previously announced by Nikola, trucks will have zero emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere.

The heart of the Nikola truck line is the new power plant for commercial vehicles, which was created thanks to the cooperation between Nikola and Bosch. The companies designed a new power unit from scratch.

The Bosch system of axial electric drive eAxle is a flexible modular platform that combines the electric motor, power electronics and transmission in a single compact unit. It can be successfully used on any type of car, from compact cars to trucks.

The eAxle design will use the already known axle drive system and electric motor generators SMG from Bosch.

The electrical installation of the eAxle drive will be powered by specially designed fuel cells - also jointly designed by Nikola and Bosch. They will provide an electric truck with an outstanding power reserve․ The control system is also a joint development based on the technical and software solutions of Bosch․ The power plant from Nikola and Bosch will have zero emissions of harmful substances.
