- Parking assistance included in the list of standard equipment for most modern cars.
- Every third new passenger car registered in Germany in 2016 has an automatic emergency braking system.
- The share of new cars equipped with a lane tracking system in Germany has doubled.
- The first function of partially automated driving appeared on the market as a traffic jam assistance system.
- By 2019, Bosch expects to increase the turnover of the driver assistance systems market to two billion euros.
Stuttgart, Germany. People buying new cars today are interested in electronic driver assistance systems. “There is a clear trend: in the near future, having a car with electronic assistants will be as natural as with a radio and ESP,” commented Bosch board member Dr. Dirk Hoisel, citing Bosch analyst results, based on data on registration of new cars in 2016 According to statistics, parking assistance systems, lane tracking and emergency braking are becoming increasingly popular. Parking assistance systems - from simple sensors to a fully automatic assistant - include 62 percent of new passenger cars registered in Germany in 2016. The second place in popularity is occupied by emergency braking systems, warning the driver about the danger of a collision and automatically reducing speed to a full stop. Thus, every third new car registered in 2016 (38%) was equipped with an automatic braking system. However, it is included in the list of standard equipment for more than a quarter of these cars. In third place in the ranking is the driver’s condition monitoring This device was included in the equipment of 37 percent of new passenger cars registered in 2016. And the most intensively growing popularity of tracking systems for the lane. The number of newly registered cars equipped with this system in 2016 has doubled in comparison with the previous year. Another interesting growth spurt is associated with adaptive cruise control (ACC). In 2013, cars equipped with this system barely gained 4 percent of all newly registered in Germany, and in 2016, adaptive cruise control appeared in almost every fifth car (19%).
Driver assistance systems are increasingly part of standard equipment
Parking assistance, emergency braking and lane tracking systems are among the most popular electronic assistants in Germany, the United States, the Netherlands, Belgium and France. Parking assistants in France are even more popular than in Germany: 67 percent of new passenger cars registered in this country in 2016 are equipped with such a system. At the same time, in most cases - in 63 percent of new cars registered in France - it is included in the standard equipment. In Belgium and the Netherlands, 39 percent of new cars are equipped with an automatic emergency braking system: this is the highest percentage in Europe. For the first time, Italy and Russia got into a Bosch analytical study. In these countries, the popularity of driver assistance systems is relatively small compared to others. Nevertheless, 18% of new passenger cars registered in Italy in 2016 are equipped with driver assistance systems. In Russia, the share of such cars is only 6 percent. Cars equipped with emergency braking systems accounted for the same 6 percent.
Bosch is developing faste than the driver assistance systems
Electronic systems help drivers in difficult and critical driving situations. These assistants are an important step towards trouble-free and stress-free future mobility. If an automatic emergency braking system had been installed on all cars in Germany, this would have prevented up to 72 percent of traffic accidents related to hitting the rear. The number of cars equipped with an emergency braking system is constantly growing. For Bosch, one of the largest component suppliers, this means market growth. “Since then, the market has already grown by about 20 percent, but Bosch is growing even faster,” said Gerhard Steiger, president of Bosch Chassis Systems Control. In 2019, the company's sales in the direction of driver assistance systems will exceed two billion euros. The previous mark - one billion euros - was completed in 2016. Currently, technical progress is on its way to autonomous driving. The results of the Bosch analytical research indicate that the first function of partially automated driving, the traffic assistant in traffic, is already on the market. The action of this electronic assistant allows you to automatically repeat the movement of the car, the next ahead. The system independently sets the vehicle in motion, accelerates and stops it, and also maneuvers within the framework of a lane. The traffic assistance assistant in traffic is on the list of equipment for approximately half of new cars registered in Germany and equipped with an adaptive cruise control system. In total, the number of such cars is 9 percent of all cars, first passed the state registration.
Bosch analytics is based on statistics on the registration of new cars for 2016
In 2016, 3.4 million new cars were registered in Germany. Based on statistics from the registration of new vehicles collected by the German Federal Office for Road Transport (KBA) for 2016, as well as data (March 22, 2017) provided by experts in the field of IHS Markit business, Bosch experts analyzed all segments of the passenger car market. The results of the analysis demonstrate the equipment of serial models with driver assistance systems - as standard or additional equipment. The study also shows which systems are currently available on the market. Bosch has been analyzing the market of electronic assistants since 2013.:
